Chipotle Saltburst
Most of our ideas for new flavors come to us when we're at home cooking or grilling. Like you, we get
tired of eating the same old chicken breasts with the same old flavor, so we're always trying to think of
ways to spice things up. We like the complexity of chipotle peppers - how the flavor starts off smoky and
not so hot, but then slowly intensifies. Also, we were looking for a seasoning to use instead of regular
salt and pepper. After a few days in the kitchen, we created Chipotle Saltburst and its been on our
dinner table ever since.
How We Make It
- Chipotle Saltburst begins with the selection of roasted jalapenos (chipotles)
and lemons.
- We remove all the stems and grind the peppers. To avoid burning our lungs
with the dust from the peppers,
we usually wear a face mask and gloves.
- Next, we mix the ground peppers with the remaining ingredients and bottle it.
- The final step is to seal each bottle, add the decorative rafia, and the product
label. We write and
design all of our own labels and product literature and have it printed at a small local printer. When
possible, we use recycled paper.
Ingredients
Chipotle Saltburst contains Portuguese sea salt, roasted jalapenos (chipotles), fresh-squeezed lemon,
vinegar, cilantro, and paprika.
Recommended Uses
We have replaced our salt and pepper shakers with a shaker of Chipotle Saltburst and over time we've
discovered that its good on just about anything. It's smoky flavor enhances salmon, scrambled eggs, fresh-sliced
tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms, chicken breasts, and potato salad.
When we have a party, we have our guests sprinkle it on their corn-on-the-cob, but we also use it to
grill pork tenderloins and beef ribeyes or to roast a turkey.
